Go or not? The “tug -of -war” between Meta and the European Union will usher in the ending in 2023.

The “data” battle between social media giants Meta and EU data protection institutions is still not over. As early as February of this year, when the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) issued an administrative instruction to META. Since the data transmission agreement between the United States and Europe had been invalidated before, Meta was required to stop using the user data from the EU to the United States, otherwise it will A huge ticket is issued. Meta responded that if user data cannot be transmitted from the European Union to the United States, Meta will only suspend the company’s services in the European Union, including Facebook and Instagram. At the same time, the administrative order appealed to the Irish High Court.

In May of this year, the Irish High Court announced that Meta’s appeal was invalid, and the administrative order immediately resumed. The second battle between DPC and Meta officially started. Seeing that the negotiations are in a deadlock, META may need to withdraw from the European market. At this time, the EU Data Protection Agency (DPA) announced that it will postpone the execution of the administrative order before the final result. The two sides once again won the troops.

DPA stated that it will continue to discuss new data transmission agreements with some departments in the United States. Before getting the final result, it will not execute the administrative order of Meta. It is expected that in early 2023, the new data transmission agreement will be released. At that time, the “data tug -of -war” of Meta and DPC will get a final result.
