Shein is in trouble! Accused of plagiarizing intellectual property rights in America!

According to foreign media reports, Shein was once again sued for plagiarism in the United States. Shein has been sued by a group of American designers in California federal court, accusing them of “massive and systematic intellectual property plagiarism” against American designers.

These designers accused Shein of infringing copyright and trademark rights. The products produced and sold by Shein are entirely the creativity of these designers. They said that intellectual property piracy has become a part of Shein’s design process and organizational culture.

The lawsuit listed Shein and several related companies (including Roadget Business and Zoetop Business) as tort liability persons. According to the plaintiff, Shein made billions of dollars by using a secret algorithm. This algorithm can identify the emerging fashion trends. It also combines this with the company structure to facilitate the production and sale of plagiarized products.

The plaintiffs claimed that Shein used its on-demand production model to offset possible copyright claims. Designers claim that some of Shein’s product designs are completely graphic designs protected by copyright, which causes them to suffer economic losses, the value of their works declines, and damages their rights and reputation. In addition, they also accused Shein of being involved in extortion and copyright infringement. Therefore, they are seeking financial compensation according to the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Organization Act (RICO) and seeking to take preventive measures against Shein.

Due to constant accusations of copying the designs of brands and designers, Shein has been caught in the whirlpool of public opinion. According to a survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal, in the past three years, Shein has faced at least 50 federal lawsuits for alleged copyright and trademark infringement in the United States. On the plaintiff’s list, there are not only well-known designers, but also well-known brands, such as Ralph Lauren, Oakley and Dr. Martens, all of whom have taken Shein to court for openly copying their designs. Some lawsuits have been settled out of court, while in other cases, Shein denies the allegations or blames external suppliers.
