TikTok International Edition, an e-commerce platform specially designed for China products, will soon be launched in the United States.

TikTok’s international Tiktok will launch an e-commerce platform in the United States in August for cross-border sales of goods from China.

According to the news, the project will sell clothes, electronic products and household goods made in China, and operate in a “Sold by Amazon” mode similar to Amazon’s self-operated goods, dealing with marketing, sales, logistics and after-sales service.

TikTok has been seeking to launch a plan to provide an e-commerce platform for third-party sellers in the United States. However, due to non-commercial factors, it has not received positive response from American companies and has to postpone the wide-scale promotion of this project. However, China’s cross-border e-commerce has flourished in recent years and has become an important export channel. It is reasonable for TikTok to turn to serve China exporters. After all, Tik Tok is a household name in China.

TikTok’s cross-border e-commerce platform in North America will directly compete with Shein and Temu, which have similar positioning. Shein has gained a firm foothold in selling fashion clothes and accessories, while Temu has attacked from shoes, automobile equipment to household items, providing consumers with a wider choice of goods.

Retail Cities, an American retail analysis agency, said in an interview with local media in the United States that TikTok e-commerce platform has changed the mode of pushing goods to consumers, and its own algorithm makes it difficult for traditional advertisers to adapt to the new gameplay. It is foreseeable that product information push on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube will face challenges. The platforms such as Shein and Temu naturally understand this randomized, gamified and algorithm-driven way of creating consumer demand, and they will have a similar development footprint with TikTok.
