To reduce cross-border costs, Temu launched maritime logistics.

It is reported that Temu, a cross-border e-commerce company owned by Pinduoduo, has cooperated with world-renowned maritime logistics departments such as Mason, Yixing, CMA, Maersk and COSCO Shipping to reduce its logistics costs. It is reported that compared with air transportation, the cost of cross-border logistics can be reduced by as much as 30% to 60% by sea express.

At present, about 80% to 90% of the world’s freight is carried out by sea. The reason why this mode of transportation has become one of the most commonly used modes of transportation is that it has multiple characteristics that other modes of transportation (such as land transportation or air transportation) do not have, such as supporting heavy loads, supporting a large number of goods through special containers, and being flexible and multifunctional. In Europe, sea transportation is also one of the commonly used modes of logistics transportation. In addition to seaports, Europe also has a large number of inland ports, such as Strasbourg, Paris, Lyon or Brussels, and a dense network of navigable rivers and canals. Through this huge Haihe River transportation network, the EU has contacts with all countries of the Union, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe.

Previously, EU e-commerce also reported that Temu has become the most downloaded e-commerce platform in many European countries. However, at present, Temu still loses $30 per order, and the overall loss rate is around 40%. By using maritime logistics to reduce transportation costs, Temu is expected to achieve low prices, strengthen profitability and expand its business scope in Europe.
