Which market is the most efficient for logistics in Europe? It’s not Germany!

According to data, the rapid development of e-commerce has brought great challenges to global logistics, with the global package volume reaching an unprecedented 159 million in 2021. In 2022, although the online shopping frenzy has significantly eased due to the end of the epidemic, logistics companies are still busy processing orders in the current global e-commerce market of $3.5 trillion. Meanwhile, according to the Statista Global Consumer Survey E-commerce Special Report, logistics speed is one of the three most important standards for online shopping consumers in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, following free (return) shipping and logistics tracking.

Package transportation time, that is, the time from package to delivery, is the decisive factor of customer satisfaction. According to the data from Parcel Monitor, the package transportation time varies greatly in different countries. Among the six countries analyzed, Australia has the longest package transportation time, with an average of 2.4 to 3.4 days. Between the first quarter of 2021 and the fourth quarter of 2022, France’s average delivery speed was 1.8 to 1.9 days, making it relatively the most reliable and stable logistics. Although the shipping speeds in Germany, Denmark, and Switzerland are also fast most of the time, the transportation time is unstable. Spain’s average package delivery time almost doubled between the fourth quarter of 2021 and the fourth quarter of 2022, with delivery personnel taking an average of 3.5 working days from pick-up to first delivery. According to industry insiders, labor shortages may be one of the reasons for the increase in transportation time.
